The short answer: pick a famous camp for serious training and a big international crowd, a women-only retreat for a first trip with coaching, community and everything organised (like our partners Be Fierce Combat Retreats in Phuket), or a local gym for authentic, budget training. Expect two sessions a day, six days a week, from about ฿2,000–4,400 per week at camps.

📍 Where we train — from the Athena team
When we're wanting a holiday, we'll usually go to Bangtao in Phuket with Be Fierce Retreats so we get a mix of beachside relaxing, or to Singha Muay Thai on Soi Tai-ed for more intensive work. In Bangkok, we like the coaches and extensive gym facilities of Elite Fight Club.

Best For: Intensive Training with On-Site Accommodation
Head for the fighter-focused gyms like Tiger Muay Thai or Bangtao where you can stay on-site and live and breathe Muay Thai for a short intensive training period. Bring lots of clothing, all your gear including sparring gear, and buy travel insurance in case of any injuries or weather-related incidents that can happen in Thailand.

Best For: Intensive Training with Flexibility
Don't want to be tied to one gym but still want the intensity? Stay on Soi Tai-ed a.k.a. Fitness Street and try out the gyms in the area like Singha Phuket and Rattachai which offer intensive training, all while still enjoying everything the Soi has to offer.

Best For: Solo Trip Holiday + Training
Go with a women's retreat like Be Fierce Retreats which offers a perfect balance of training, relaxation, social activities and a memorable bonding experience with the new friends you'll make. Read more about Retreats below.

Best For: Girls Holiday with Friends Who Don't Train
Depending on where in Thailand you're headed, try to stay in areas that are tourist-friendly but close to gyms so you're able to duck out to catch a class or private lesson in between your other itinerary activities with your non-training friends. If you're in Bangkok, stay on the Sukhumvit near Asok to Phrom Phong so you can hit up the nearby gyms like Elite Fight Club, iMuay Thai and Kru Dam. Book private lessons early or account for the group class timings in your schedule - better yet, bring your friends to training with you!

- Respect the ring: some traditional gyms ask women not to climb over the top rope. Read more about the etiquette of training in Thailand.

What to pack for a Muay Thai camp in Thailand
Kit rarely dries overnight in the humidity, so pack one fresh set per session.
- Muay Thai shorts × 3–4 — traditional Thai satin is light, dries fast and gives full range for kicks and knees, which is why Thai fighters have worn it for generations. Shop women's Muay Thai shorts, cut for a female fit.
- Sports bras / crop tops × 3–4 — secure for clinch: crop top sports bras.
- Handwraps × 2–3 pairs to rotate: Muay Thai handwraps.
- Ankle supports for long days on canvas: ankle supports.
- Gloves & shin guards (gyms rent, but your own are more hygienic).
